Interior Car Cleaning Tips to Impress Your Passengers
Now that the weather is starting to get warmer and we are in the midst of spring cleaning, we must not neglect our cars. Although most people only see the exterior of your car, who doesn’t want to impress their passengers with a spotless, clean smelling ride.
At Fred’s Car Wash, we pay extra attention to interior car cleaning at three of our four locations in Connecticut. We know how important it is to have a polished-looking car so we have a few tips to stay on top of your interior car cleaning.
Starting From the Bottom – The Floor Mats
Floor mats tend to collect the most dirt in your car from your shoes dragging in debris. Unfortunately, this happens all year so it is something you always have to keep up with, from road salt in the winter, pollen in the spring, sand from beach trips in the summer, and leaves stuck to shoes in the fall.
With carpet mats, it is best to take them out of the car and give them a good shake and vacuum. For any stains, we suggest investing in a good carpet or upholstery cleaner to break up the substance. For messes on cloth seats, let the product sit to really break up the stain.
Rubber, vinyl and silicone mats are much easier to clean, one of the reasons why many families with small children have them. Start off by taking the mats out of the car and hosing them down. Fill a bucket with dishwashing liquid and warm water and with a brush, scrub each mat. Hang the mats off the ground to air-dry before placing them back in the car.
Don’t forget to vacuum the carpet and seats before reinstalling the carpet.
Pay Attention to the Leather
If you want to keep your leather upholstery looking as good as new, you may want to invest in a leather-cleaning kit. Leather can easily be stained from messes not cleaned up immediately which can decrease the quality of your interior.
Many kits come with a wealth of different products, such as a leather cleaner, conditioner, protection cream and stain lifter. It’s best to find a kit that suits your needs and lifestyle.
All About the Details
When it comes to the dashboard, it can be very frustrating to clean between all the little buttons, air vents, cup holders, steering wheel, and duvets. Using a microfiber cloth to clean these nooks and crannies doesn’t pick up all the dust, which can be very unsatisfying. A detailing brush can easily help clean those hard-to-reach places and ensure your car looks like it just came out of the factory.
Brushes are such an unutilized and inexpensive tool to take your interior car cleaning game up a notch. Especially during pollen season, they are a great way to get rid of that green mask which seems to show up all over our cars.
Detailing brushes can also be used on seats to clear crumbs and dirt in between cushions and along seams.
